The platforms will consist of two communication payloads: an RF transceiver and an optical laser system. This will test the capabilities of the link and the feasibility of this type of service as a first step towards an autonomous ship.
The system is aimed at serving smart vessels and in particular autonomous navigation vessels, other smart commercial maritime services and to favor the process towards a highly and full digitalisation of the Port system.
The project represents a first step towards the final program that foresees the development of a small satellite constellation providing a continuous and secured communication link as a downstream service to the maritime field.
